#CoronavirusNW: Cases surge past 10,500─── LUCKY NKUYANE 08:06 Tue, 14 Jul 2020
The cumulative number of confirmed Coronavirus (Covid-19) infections in the North West has now surged past 10 500 since the first case was reported in the province.
The surge in confirmed cases comes a day after President Cyril Ramaphosa, during his address to the nation, warned that each province in the county will see a surge in the rate of Covid-19 infections.
The province has in the past few days recorded over 500 new infections, with deaths also increasing to 36.
On Monday night Health Minister, Zweli Mkhize, announced 601 more new cases as cumulative cases now reached 10,525 (up from 9,924 cases previously reported).
The surge in the rate of Covid-19 infections in the province has been largely blamed on the mining industry which continues to account for the bulk of the positive cases.
The province has 8,298 active cases after 2,191 patients recovered from the virus, and 36 deaths were recorded from 10,252 reported cases.
