They allegedly tried to bribe an investigating officer with R30 000 for the release of suspects who were arrested earlier for diesel theft. The Hawks spokesperson, Tlangelani Rikhotso, says that they both claimed to be the legal representatives of the suspects. The arrested suspects were allegedly nabbed at an underground pipeline site while extracting diesel and pumping it into a fuel tanker last week.

Rikhotso says “one of these two suspects allegedly approached the investigating officer regarding the matter involving diesel theft worth R480 000. An undercover operation was set up and the suspect arrived with his accomplice to make a down payment of R5000. Both suspects were immediately arrested. The police investigation continues.”
