So far 48 people have died in the province due to Covid-19 after 36 were previously confirmed to have passed away. This comes as the rate of Covid-19 infections in the province in the last two days surged past 10,000 and is now nearing the 12,000 mark. 

According to the latest statistics by Health Minister, Zweli Mkhize, the province has 8,599 active cases after 2,578 patients recovered from the virus, with 48 deaths recorded from 11,225 cases. 

OFM News previously reported that the Provincial Health Department revealed that most deaths have mainly been attributed to, amongst others, pneumonia and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).  

Other common comorbidities recorded in the province include diabetes, hypertension and obesity. The MEC for Cooperative Governance Gordon Kegakilwe are among those who passed away in the province. Kegakilwe passed on at a Klerskdorp health facility after suffering cardiac arrest. He was admitted with Covid-19 pneumonia on Sunday at the Vryburg Private Hospital and later on Monday transported to a medical facility in Klerksdorp where he reportedly passed on after several attempts to resuscitate him had failed.
