Police spokesperson, Sabata Mokgwabone, confirms to OFM News that the vehicle the officials were travelling in collided head-on with a truck along the R540 between Leeudoringstad and Wolmarasstad road. He says Sergeant Thys Gareitse and Sergeant Daniel Sethibe, who were both stationed in Potchefstroom Public Order Police cluster, died late Wednesday morning.

Mokgwabone adds that the local police in Wolmaransstad are investigating a case of culpable homicide following the incident which also claimed the life of a civilian.

"Investigation into the matter continues and the Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena conveyed his message of condolences to all the families," Mokgwabone adds.

This comes a few days after another officer, the 41-year-old Sergeant Martha Mamoitoyi Bouwer, was laid to rest in Kanana outside Klerksdorp after she was brutally killed at her place of residence.

Mokgwabone previously told OFM News that Bouwer's murder is still under investigation to determine who is responsible for her brutal murder.

She and these two officers are amongst five SAPS members killed in while on duty in the province. 

OFM News in March reported that another female police officer was killed in Mahikeng following a botched heist. In February Free State police officer, Lloyd Poonyane (41) was shot dead in Orkney outside Klerksdorp after following up on a complaint in the Vierfontein area in the Free State.
