The Novel Coronavirus has claimed the life of another politician in North West.
Toffies Moemi, who served both the SACP and ANC from around 1995 in Schweizer-Reneke in the Mamusa Local Municipality reportedly died on Tuesday.
Moemi is the second ANC politician in the province known to have passed away from Covid-19 which has so far killed 48 people and infected a confirmed number of 11 225. ANC spokesperson, Kenny Mororlong, describes Moemi as part of a generation of young activists who joined the ANC immediately after its unbanning and served in youth development forums at local and district level.
The party has further sent its heartfelt condolences to his family, relatives and friends.
His death comes after the death of MEC for Cogta, Gordon Kegakilwe, who passed from a cardiac arrest due to Covid-19 related complications at a Klerskdorp health facility. Kegakilwe was buried on Friday in Vryburg, honoured with a provincial official funeral category 1.
"He served the Mass Democratic Movement and th alliance in many capacities including as Provincial Deputy Secretary of The National Education, Health and Allied Workers' Union in North West,” Morolomg adds in a statement
"Toffies was a committed ANC cadre whose passion for social justice distinguished him from many of his contemporaries." He further adds that in Moemi's honour, the ANC will continue to strengthen its commitment towards the fight against Covid-19.
