NW Education weighs in on three deaths─── MARVIN NTSANE 11:15 Wed, 22 Jul 2020
There is a somber mood at the Ekron and Mochware Primary Schools in Ganyesa outside Vryburg in the North West on Wednesday after the deaths of two learners and a teacher earlier this week.
OFM News yesterday reported the 56-year-old Beauty Siamisang, who is a teacher at the Ekron Primary School, was found dead on her bed by colleagues after she failed to report for duty on Monday. Siamisang’s death is also plagued by confusion over the exact circumstances or cause.
Police spokesperson, Amanda Funani, says it appears that the woman was strangled to death with a rope. Meanwhile the Education Department's spokesperson, Elias Malindi, says she was shot.
In another tragic incident, two learners who are siblings from Mochware Primary School, passed on after they succumbed to a shack fire in the same area on Tuesday. Malindi states that counselling has been provided for the learners and teachers. He further says announcements about the funeral arrangements will be made during the course of the week.
He adds that the Education MEC, Mmaphefo Matsemela, wishes to convey her heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families after these untimely deaths.
Siamisang’s death also comes as the country is gripped by gender-based violence. She is the second female teacher in this province to be murdered this month. OFM News reported that a 25-year-old female teacher was strangled to death at her home near Moruleng earlier in July.
