Mangaung reminded of water restrictions─── MARVIN NTSANE 11:47 Wed, 22 Jul 2020
Declining dam levels in the Free State have prompted a reminder that localised water restrictions are still in effect in the Mangaung Metro Municipality.
The National Department of Water and Sanitation's (DWS) spokesperson, Sputnik Ratau, says this is according to national dam level checks conducted weekly by the department. The decline is expected because the province does not normally receive rain during the winter months.
Ratau says the dams in this province are sitting at a combined percentage of 81.2% as of 21 July 2020, as compared to 82,7% in the middle of June 2020. He adds that currently the main dams supplying Mangaung includes the Rustfontein, which is sitting at 29.4%, Welbedacht: 76.5 %, Groothoek: 64.7%, and Knelpoort: 67.4%.
The Free State Department of Water and Sanitation's (DWS) spokesperson, Larry Crisp, in a statement said localised water restrictions in Mangaung are still in place. He urged residents to adhere to the restrictions and use water sparingly.
Ratau concluded by saying residents must remember it is Important to maintain good hygiene during the current Covid-19 pandemic.
