The Hawks provincial spokesperson, Nomthandoza Mnisi, explains that the suspect was arrested after the Hawks received a tip-off about the alleged incident of trafficking. She says according to information the suspect had allegedly kidnapped a 26-year-old woman from Pietermarizburg in KwaZulu-Natal and brought her to the Northern Cape during June 2020.

Mnisi says the woman was allegedly locked up at a house, raped and repeatedly assaulted by the perpetrator. The 38-year-old is expected to appear in the Kimberley Magistrate's Court on Friday after he was arrested during an operation by members of the Hawks on Wednesday.

In April 2020, OFM News reported that a 33-year-old foreign national was also arrested for a similar offence. He was alleged to have trafficked a 22-year-old woman from Gauteng to Prieska in the Northern Cape on March 16.

The suspects allegedly recruited the 22-year-old under false pretences. He was also alleged to have raped and assaulted the woman several times at his house.
