At least five more coronavirus patients in the Free State have passed away in the last 24 hours.
The death of these patients now brings the toll in the province to 62 after 57 was previously recorded. These 5 patients are part of the 572 new deaths that were recorded across the country in the last 24 hours, which brings the total number of those who died due to Covid-19 related complications to 5 940.
Their deaths come as the Covid-19 rate of infection continues to soar across the country. It now stands at 394 948 with the total number of recoveries standing at 229 175. According to the latest statistics by Minister Zweli Mkhize, the Free State has 10,955 active cases after 1,315 patients recovered from the virus, with 62 deaths recorded from 12,332 previously reported cases.
At least 15 patients have passed away in the province in a space of three days.
This as on Monday night Mkhize announced the deaths of 10 patients which then increased the death toll linked to Covid-19 to 57 people.
The province is amongst five provinces in the country, including two others in the Central South African Region, namely North West and the Northern Cape, which have recorded less than 100 Covid-19 deaths.
