#CoronavirusNC: Eight more patients die in NC─── LUCKY NKUYANE 08:37 Fri, 24 Jul 2020
At least eight more coronavirus patients have died due to Covid-19 related implications in the Northern Cape.
Health Minister, Zweli Mkhize, announced on Thursday night that these 8 patients are part of 153 more who died in the last 24 hours in the country. This now takes the death toll of those who died due to Covid-19 complications in the Northern Cape to 23, after 15 deaths were previously reported.
Their deaths comes as the rate of infections continues to rapidly increase. According to the latest statistics by Mkhize, the Northern Cape has 1,795 active cases after 1,152 patients recovered from the virus, and 23 deaths were recorded from the overall 2,970 reported cases.
The Provincial Department of Health's spokesperson, Lebohang Majaha, reports that the total number of people who have tested positive in the Northern Cape increased from 2727 to 2970. He says this is an increase of 238 people in the last 24 hours.
The Northern Cape is the province in the country with the lowest number of cumulative cases, active cases and number of deaths.
The increase in the number of Covid-19 infections in the province has so far affected over 80 schools and forced them to shut down. These schools are mostly from the areas in the province which are hard-hit by the virus.
