Bfn estate agent to appear in court─── OLEBOGENG MOTSE 13:17 Mon, 27 Jul 2020
A 38-year-old Bloemfontein real estate agent is facing a fraud charge after failing to reimburse a client with R135 000 for a house in the city for over three years.
Free State Hawks spokesperson, Lynda Steyn, says the accused from Gans Property Investments has been summoned to appear before the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Monday in connection with the case.
The 38-year-old estate agent is further being charged with contravening the Estate Agency Affairs Act in addition to the fraud charge, “for failing to apply for a fidelity fund certificate”, amongst others, says Steyn. OFM News’ Olebogeng Motse reports the case dates back to May 2017.
Three years ago the complainant in the matter deposited the above-mentioned amount of money into a bank account belonging to Gans Property Investments with the intention of purchasing a specific home in the township known as JB Mafora Square. The complainant was later informed by the accused that the selected property was no longer available but an alternative would be found. The complainant declined the option of an alternative and requested a refund. To date she is yet to receive her money back. It is alleged the real estate agency was in financial ruin and unable to refund the complainant at the time.
The real estate agent was served with a summons by the Hawks last month. It is yet to be confirmed if the accused has already appeared in the Bloemfontein courthouse as yet.
This is a developing story.
