The national goal for home ownership is being intensified in the Free State.
This, as a budget of close to R12 million has been allocated for a title deed restoration program in the province.
The MEC of Human Settlements, Motshidisi Koloi, announced this during the tabling of the 2020/2021 financial adjusted budget which was live streamed on Tuesday, saying in the previous financial year at least 5 209 title deeds were registered.
She says that in this current financial year, her department aims to register a total of 8 238 title deeds.
Koloi adds that at least R5 million of the budget will go towards the registration of 2 908 title deeds, saying a large sum of this amount will be distributed among four municipalities - namely Thabo Mofutsanyane, Fezile Dabi, Xhariep, Mangaung and Lejweleputswa.
She further states an amount of at least R7 million will be used towards accelerating the registration of current title deeds.
She says the solving of family- and other disputes, conducting beneficiary verifications and addressing litigation matters are issues which create the delays of title deeds.
