The 34-year-old alleged drug dealer who was arrested by the Hawks' serious organised unit in the Northern Cape is out on bail.

The suspect, Jacques Abel, appeared before the Upington Magistrate's Court on Thursday and was granted R2 000 bail. His case was postponed to November 23, 2020, for further deliberation.

The Hawks provincial spokesperson, Nomthandazo Mnisi, previously told OFM News that he was arrested during a joint operation in Upington on Wednesday, where he was allegedly busted with 475 grams of tik, 1 065 mandrax tablets and 67 pouches of mandrax powder.

Mnisi says the street value of the drugs are estimated to be worth R581 000. The suspect is due to appear at Upington Magistrate court on Thursday.

The suspect was arrested early Wednesday morning in a joint operation by the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team in Upington, K9 Upington and Port of Entry Upington.

"Members received Information about drugs that are being stored at a residence on Angela Street, Rainbow, Upington and a search and seizure operation was conducted," Mnisi adds.
