#CoronavirusNW: Death toll surpasses 80─── LUCKY NKUYANE 12:37 Fri, 31 Jul 2020
At least nine more coronavirus patients have died in the North West in the last 24-hour cycle.
This week over 30 Covid-19 related deaths were confirmed in the province. The increase in the rate of fatalities in the province took the death toll to 81. The nine confirmed deaths in the North West are part of 315 fatalities reported by the Health Minister, Zweli Mkhize, on Thursday night. Mkhize also announced that the country’s death toll now stands at 7 812 with a total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases standing at 482 169.
The province has recorded an increase of 580 new infections in the last 24 hours. This means that active Covid-19 cases in the province are now at 10,570 after 8,160 patients recovered from the virus, and 81 deaths were recorded from the 18,811 reported cases.
The North West residents have once again been warned to observe Covid-19 regulations as fatalities increase.
Health MEC Madoda Sambatha earlier this month revealed Covid-19 related deaths are mainly attributed to, amongst others, pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, acute respiratory distress syndrome, cardiac failure and severe pancreatitis. This follows the sudden increase in the number of deaths in the province, which continues to increase.
