MEC to visit family of murder victims─── MARVIN NTSANE 12:42 Fri, 31 Jul 2020
The family of the murder victims from Hartswater in the Northern Cape is expected to be visited by the MEC of Agriculture, Environmental Affairs, Rural Development and Land Affairs, Mase Manopole, on Friday.
She will deliver a message of support and extend her condolences to the Brand family. Manopole’s spokesperson, Zandisile Luphahla, says this comes after an elderly couple known as Danie and Breggie Brand, and their daughter Elzabie, were abducted and murdered earlier this week. A total of five suspects were arrested for three counts of murder, kidnapping, and robbing this family, amongst other charges. The suspects have already appeared in the Hartswater Magistrate's Court on Thursday and they were remanded in custody. The will reappear in the same court on 13 August 2020.
OFM News reported earlier this week that the family members were abducted from their house on Sunday in two of their vehicles, which were also stolen. The body of the 50-year-old daughter, Elzabie Brand, was found in a field in Taung in the North West on Tuesday, while the bodies of the 83-year-old Danie and 73-year-old Breggie Brand were found close-by in a field in the Takaneng Village later that day. Three of the suspects were arrested after the police spotted the vehicle they were travelling in matched the description of one belonging to the deceased. The other two suspects were arrested later that day following further investigations after the arrests.
