#CoronavirusNW: At least 200 health professionals infected─── LUCKY NKUYANE 10:27 Sat, 01 Aug 2020
At least 200 healthcare professionals in the North West are said to have tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
This is according to Premier Job Mokgoro, who led a virtual Provincial Command Council on Friday. He says so far a total of 103 healthcare professionals had recovered.
OFM News this week reported that four healthcare workers died due to Covid-19 related complications. This, as the rate of infections continue to increase in the province.
Mokgoro also announced that they have noted from the weekly epidemiology report that the incidence and prevalence rate continues to increase, with the province registering a total of 3 332 positive cases in one week.
"Reflecting on progress registered in implementing the integrated risk readjusted and health response plan, the Provincial Command Council noted with sadness the passing of a total of 81 citizens who succumbed to Covid-19. [We] send our sincere condolences to all the bereaved families," he adds.
The province has been battling to deal with the rapid increase in the rate of Covid-19 infections and seen more people being hospitalised.
"Furthermore, a continuous increase of hospitalisation cases has been recorded, with the number of patients admitted in ICU and High Care increasing daily in the past two weeks. The council welcomed the commitment by the Department of Health to invest more resources in contact tracing, with dedicated teams already deployed to various wards across the province for this purpose," Mokgoro elaborates.
OFM News previously reported that the increase in the rate of Covid-19 infections continues to affect public as well as private institutions in the province. This as more of them continue to suffer the effects of the virus which at most forces them to shut down for decontamination and contact tracing, amongst others.
