NW school app to ensure learning during #Covid19─── MARVIN NTSANE 08:22 Mon, 03 Aug 2020
The North West Education Department says it intends to extend the classroom to learners' homes during the enforced school break.
The department says this will be made possible by an application called “Dial-a-tutor”. Education MEC Mmaphefo Matsemela will launch the app in Onkabetse Thuto Secondary School in the Setlagole Village near Delarayville on Wednesday.
The MEC’s spokesperson, Elias Malindi, says the app will allow learners to have access to tutors through a toll-free number. He says the Grade 8 and 9 learners will be assisted with Social Science, Natural Science, Mathematics, Economic and Management Sciences. He adds that the Grade 10, 11 and 12 learners will be assisted with content subjects including Accounting, History, Physical Sciences and Life Sciences, amongst others.
Matsemela emphasises that the initiative is going to help all high school learners.
“As a nation we are confronted by a unique challenge and it makes the education sector the most affected due to the Covid-19 pandemic. As a result, we came up with this solution in order to assist learners whilst they are at home.
With this initiative learners are going to learn beyond the classroom. It will allow them free access to subject specialists and it comes at no cost at all. This solution allows learners to leave their contact details and be contacted once a tutor is available,” said MEC Matsemela.
