A North West man was arrested by the police in the early hours of Monday after he allegedly murdered his 2-year old girl child in Bleskop Mine Club residences outside Rustenburg.

Police spokesperson, Sabata Mokgwabone, says the two-year old's body was found inside the house with multiple stab wounds. He explains that the suspect is said to have also attacked and assaulted his wife.

He further explains that the incident follows after the apparent mentally unstable suspect woke up in the morning and screamed that there were people attacking them. Mokgwabone adds that man is currently under police guard at Job Shimankana Tabane hospital and will appear in the Rustenburg Magistrates’ Court on a charge of murder soon.

Mokgwabone says the wife was attacked by the suspect upon asking questions. "As a result, she fled from the house together with their six-year-old boy while the suspect locked himself inside the house with the two-year-old girl before damaging household goods.

“Police together with a negotiator were summoned to the scene, but the violent suspect did not cooperate. The apparent mentally unstable suspect was ultimately arrested by the members of Tactical Response Team (TRT) who handed him over to paramedics for sedation. "

Meanwhile, the Provincial Commissioner, Sello Kwena expressed his shock over the alleged killing of a toddler by her own father.
