The department's spokesperson, Geoffrey van der Merwe, says the department is preparing to "incubate" at least 3 000 learners for a period of three months. He states that the students will be placed at different venues across the province. He adds that these plans will start with at least 1300 learners and will gradually phase in the remaining learners.

Van der Merwe says that these camps will function as normal schools where teaching, learning, and assessments will be prioritised. He further says this will ensure that the grade 12 learners will be ready for the 2020 National Senior Certificate Examinations.
