Provincial Health spokesperson, Mondli Mvambi, says the cause of deaths of these patients were probed rigorously to first establish the type of Covid-19 related complication. This means that not all 122 Covid-19 patients died in the last 24-hour cycle.

The national 24-hour death toll of 414 as confirmed by Health Minister, Zweli Mkhize, on Wednesday night, do include the latest provincial statistics and brings the total number deaths so far to 9 298.

Mkhize said during his announcement that the Free State has 14,232 active cases after 10,582 patients recovered from the virus, with 327 deaths recorded from 25,232 cumulative cases.

The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases is 529 877 and the total number of recoveries is 377 266. 

Mkhize recently announced that unions across the country have been raising their concerns about workplace safety, the availability and quality of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and the mental and physical wellbeing of their members. “We also recognise the critical role-plays by Unions in representing their members’ views and concerns at the workplace,” Mkhize adds.
