The State Capture Commission of Inquiry is expected to continue hearing evidence today, relating to the controversial asbestos deal by the Free State Department of Human Settlements.

The commission is also expected to see three witnesses - including the former Director General of the department, Thabane Wiseman Zulu - take the stand. His legal representative, Advocate Shane Dayal, has however requested Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo for an application on behalf of his client to cross examine Mxolisi Dukwana. Dukwana, who is a former Free State economic development MEC, told the commission last year that former Free State premier Ace Magashule was a so-called blesser of many through the asbestos deal with Zulu, amongst others, benefiting from it.

Advocate Dayal, speaking on behalf of Zulu, told the commission that apart from the request to cross-examine Dukwana, he would also like to request for a postponement of his client's testimony which is set for today.

Zondo, however, confirms the postponement of Zulu's evidence has been "dismissed" and he is expected to soon take the stand.

OFM News yesterday reported that the HOD of the department, Nthimose Mokhesi, is expected to give evidence soon before the Commission relating to the failed multimillion-rand project. This, after Zondo postponed his hearing - which was scheduled for Wednesday - to a date yet to be determined.

Zulu and Mokhesi are alleged to be beneficiaries of the R255 worth project procured to Gauteng-based Blackhead Consulting and Diamond Hill Trading joint-venture for the assessment, audit and eradication of asbestos roofs in the province.
