Two nabbed for farm attack in FS─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 06:48 Mon, 10 Aug 2020
Two Free State suspects have been arrested for attacking a 68-year-old owner of a smallholding situated in Oudam Avenue, Roodewal, outside Bloemfontein on Friday.
It is alleged the suspects, aged 35 and 38, were amongst a trio hired by the victim to renovate his house.
According to information from the police, the suspects lured the victim into the house and attacked him from behind in the passage before tying his hands with a cable and threatening him with a knife.
The police's Montatsi Makhele says the suspects later drove the victim in his bakkie to the nearest ATM after he allegedly pleaded with them to spare his life in exchange for money.
"On their way another vehicle, driven by a person who knows the victim, stopped them because the person wanted to talk to the victim. The suspects panicked, stopped the bakkie and fled on foot. The police at Navalsig Police Station were called to attend to the scene" he adds.
The following day two of the suspects arrived at Bloemspruit Police Station to open a docket of robbery, which allegedly occurred in the same area. They were then taken to Navalsig to open the docket and upon their arrival the police recognised them from the description given by die victim the previous night.
Makhele says the suspects, from U-section in Botshabelo, were then arrested and detained.
They are expected to appear before the Bloemfontein Magistrate court tomorrow.
