Alleged cop killer in court─── LUCKY NKUYANE 07:20 Tue, 11 Aug 2020
A 47-year-old man arrested in connection with the murder of 26-year-old North West constable, Thato Makhoana, is expected to re-appear before the Mmabatho Magistrate's Court on Monday.
The Hawks’ provincial spokesperson, Tlangelani Rikhotso, previously said that Joseph Mathe was arrested last week Tuesday and appeared in the local court on Thursday.
His arrest follows after Makhoana's body was discovered alongside the road in Mahikeng with gunshot wounds.
While Mathe is appearing in court, a second man aged 44 is being sought for questioning, following the murder of Makhoana.
Rikhotso added that Mathe will make his appearance in court today for legal representation.
Makhoana was stationed in Mmabatho, and he apparently went missing on the morning of Wednesday 29 July 2020, while on his way to visit his sister in Zeerust.
A missing person inquiry was registered at the Mahikeng Police Station after he failed to arrive at his sister's Zeerust home or answer his cell phone.
The officer's vehicle was found torched in Majemantsho village near Lomanyaneng - far from where his body was found outside Mahikeng.
Following his murder, police in the province launched a 72-hour action plan to trace his killers.
"The team was assisted by Detectives, the Local Criminal Record Centre, the K9-unit and Flying squad," Rikhotso further added.
