Eight years since the infamous Marikana massacre in North West made international headlines, the Congress of the People (COPE) believe that the ANC should be held accountable for the lives that were lost.

This is according to the party’s spokesperson, Dennis Bloem, who says he remembers the pain and trauma that the families of the 34 mineworkers had to endure when the workers were killed during stand-off with police at the mining town of Brits.

‘’It is very clear that the ANC government want to do everything in their power, to cover up the daylight massacre of innocent workers whose only sin was to ask for a living wage,” says Bloem.

“This democratic government is doing exactly what the apartheid government did, by killing people and covering up their dirty work.’’.

The Congress of the People wishes to inform the public that the party will strive in finding someone accountable for the lives that had fallen on 16 August 2012.

OFM News earlier reported that on Friday, ahead of Sunday’s anniversary of the killings, the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) held a virtual Marikana Massacre Memorial Lecture in honour of the lives that were lost on that fateful day.
