#NCFire: Eighth tourist dies following fire─── MARVIN NTSANE 09:04 Mon, 17 Aug 2020
An eighth victim has been reported dead after a fire broke out at the Blinkwater Guest House in Witdraai in the Northern Cape over the weekend.
This follows after it was earlier reported that a total of seven people, including two adults and five children, had died during the incident.
It was reported that two were hospitalised while three survived without injuries. A seven-year-old child has been missing following the incident, which might raise the death toll to nine.
Provincial police spokesperson, Mohale Ramatseba, confirmed that the eighth victim who has passed on was an adult.
He says they passed on at a local hospital on Sunday evening. He adds that one of the victims is still in hospital at the moment for serious injuries and also explains that the police search for the missing child is still continuing.
Ramatseba says that the victims are all South Africans from the Western Cape.
He adds that they were reportedly on holiday. He also explains that their next-of-kin have been notified. An inquest docket has been opened and the police are investigating.
