#CoronavirusNW: Death toll nears 200 | News Article

The North West coronavirus death toll has passed the 190-mark and is now nearing 200 deaths.

In the last 24-hour cycle, 18 more Covid-19 patients have died. The increase in the rate of fatalities in the province took the death toll to 194. The 18 confirmed deaths in the North West are part of 162 fatalities reported by the Health Minister, Zweli Mkhize, on Sunday night. Mkhize also announced that the country’s death toll now stands at 11 839 with a total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases standing at 587 345.

The North West has recorded an increase of 155 new infections in the last 24 hours. This means that active Covid-19 cases in the province are now at 8,076 after 14,980 patients recovered from the virus, and 194 deaths were recorded from the 23,250 reported cases.

The North West residents have once again been warned to observe Covid-19 regulations as fatalities increase.

Health MEC Madoda Sambatha earlier this month revealed Covid-19 related deaths are mainly attributed to, amongst others, pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, acute respiratory distress syndrome, cardiac failure, and severe pancreatitis. This follows the sudden increase in the number of deaths in the province, which continues to increase.
