#CoronavirusNW: Companies score millions in tenders | News Article

At least 21 service providers to the North West provincial government have benefited and scored over millions of rands in the supply and distribution of Coronavirus-related materials in the province.

On Monday, Premier Job Mokgoro released the Covid-19 procurement disclose report 2020 focusing on R124, 224 million expenditure where 50% of the money went to these companies. These companies provided 14 provincial departments - including the office of the premier - with covid-19 materials which includes surgical masks, temperature scanners, hand sanitizers and disposal overalls amounting to millions of rands.

The most money spent on a single service provider is R8 280 000 for providing 5 000 containers of 25 litres of medical hand sanitizer. The lowest payment amounts to just over R1 million, for providing 40 000 masks. OFM News previously reported that Mokgoro said all provincial government departments spent over R124 million in six months - from March to 6 August.

Over 100 service providers in the province provided different services to at least 14 provincial departments which included the office of the premier, health, education and social development departments.

At 13 companies provided various items and services to the office of the premier and these included masks, gloves and decontamination of office spaces to a tune of R953 393.

Over 30 suppliers in the province supplied the Department of Health with different items which include masks, disposable overalls and temperature scanners amongst others, which cost the department R65 922 572.

Over 50 service providers also benefited from R124 million budgeted by the provincial department to source help in the fight against the spread of covid-19 by providing different services to the Department of Education which cost the department R 32 669 205.

The release of the spending of departments comes amidst a public outcry of massive alleged fraud and corruption with Covid-19 procurement across the country including in North West.

Mokgoro on Monday announced that as part of the audit and compliance there is currently an internal audit on all Covid-19 related procurement by various departments.
