Light snowfall, cold front welcome #SAlockdown level 2─── MARVIN NTSANE 11:07 Tue, 18 Aug 2020
Very cold weather, accompanied by light snowfall, has hit parts of Central South Africa and Lesotho on Tuesday.
This is as the country enters level 2 of the pandemic's lockdown following the announcement by President Cyril Ramaphosa over the weekend.
The South African Weather Services spokesperson in Bloemfontein, Rejoyce Mohlamme, explains that light snowfall is seen in the southern parts of the Free State, which includes Bloemfontein, Jagersfontein and Springfontein, as well as in the mountains of Lesotho. She also explains that the Southern parts of the Northern Cape, which include De Aar, are also experiencing light snowfall.
Mohlamme emphasises that a cold front has hit both these provinces and the eastern parts of the North West. She states that it is cool and partly cloudy in the eastern part of the North West. Isolated showers and thundershowers can also be expected in the eastern parts of the Free State. She adds that this is the second cold front this month and the third one can be expected next week. The current weather conditions are expected to last up to Wednesday this week.
