Tenth #NCFire victim dies─── MARVIN NTSANE 12:26 Tue, 18 Aug 2020
A tenth victim has been reported dead after the fire tragedy at the Blinkwater Lodge at Witdraai in the Northern Cape over the weekend.
The provincial police spokesperson, Mohale Ramatseba, confirmed the 36-year-old father, Frans Davin, succumbed to his injuries this morning. He says this follows after he was taken to a hospital in Cape Town in the Western Cape with serious burn wounds.
Meanwhile, the remains that were found at the scene yesterday are yet to be identified and the cause of the fire must be determined as police await the Forensic Fire Investigators' and Forensic Anthropologists' reports.
The latest death follows after the ninth victim, the 37-year-old Hendri Carstens, was announced dead yesterday. He was also taken to a Western Cape hospital.
The Bauer family's father Stefan (39), daughters Inge (7) and Elné (4) have lost their lives. Their mother Madelein (36) survived. Inge's body is still missing.
One of the other families from Ceres, the Carstens, lost both parents Dané (36) and Hendri Carstens (37), who later passed away in hospital, as well as their two boys, Pierre-Johan (5) and Magiel (3).
The third family lost two children, their son Frans-Jan (5) and daughter Iza (3). Their mom, Wilmien Davin (37) survived with their baby boy Ben (15 months), while their father Frans Davin (36) has now also passed on in a hospital in Cape Town.
It is alleged that the families were on a holiday at the lodge when their lodge burned down in the early hours of Sunday 17 August 2020. The deceased include six children and four adults.
