With almost 60 000 Grade 6 learners and over 43 000 Grade 11 learners expected back at Free State schools, acting Education MEC Thembeni Nxangisa will this morning visit a number of Bloemfontein schools to monitor their progress.

Schools are officially re-opening today after a 4-week break announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa in efforts to curb the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. More grades, including the much-debated Grade R, is amongst those expected to be phased in as of today. OFM News' Katleho Morapela reports from Tsoseletso High School in Mangaung that hundreds of school pupils are heading back to school.

Following a four-week break announced by Ramaphosa over a month ago, thousands of learners are this morning seen making way to various schools in Bloemfontein. At the Tsoseletso High School, where MEC Tate Makgoe was visiting just a couple of weeks ago when the school had Covid-19 positive cases, hundreds of learners are seen making their way to the school with some teachers standing outside the main gate to ensure that all learners sanitise and wear masks before entering.

Meanwhile, departmental spokesperson Howard Ndaba confirms the department is committed to ensuring that all learners have access to quality education in a safe environment.
