Trompsburg community welcomes water tankers─── LEATILE LEIEE 07:11 Thu, 27 Aug 2020
The community of Trompsburg in the Free State is grateful to the Department of Water and Sanitation and Bloem Water for making water more accessible through the addition of new water tankers.
Ella Thabi, a 71-year-old who found it difficult to collect water as she had to travel long distances, says the new tankers mean they do not struggle anymore. This has, according to Communication Manager for the Department, Larry Crisp also reduced the chances of old people contracting Covid-19 and ensures they can constantly wash their hands.
Speaking on behalf of Minister of Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation, Crisps says, “Let us assume responsibility and protect our water resources and avoid any form of vandalism. Let us join hands and fight COVID-19 and use these allocated resources wisely. While we wash our hands, let us remember that South Africa is a water scarce country and not waste water at our disposal”.
Bloem Water reportedly has constructed 185 stands and installed 178 tankers around the Free State. Only seven municipals are yet to receive tankers. But, according to the Department, combined efforts have yielded positive results for the entire province in terms of water supply.
