Many NW healthcare workers recover from #Coronavirus | News Article

At least 78% of the 219 coronavirus (Covid-19) infected staff at the Klerksdorp and Tshepong Hospital complex in the North West have recovered so far.

This is according to the complex's Public Relations Officer, Nico Masiu. He says following the infection of these 219 staff members, only 2 of them succumbed to Covid-19 related complications and died. The North West Health Department previously reported 16 healthcare professionals died due to Covid-19 across the province. The department further reported that six deaths were reported from the private sector and ten from the public sector.

In July, North West MEC for Health, Madoda Sambatha, announced that amongst those healthcare professionals who died from Covid-19, was Lomalisa Litenye, who specialised as a gynaecologist and obstetrician; and Florah Makama, a clinical psychologist. Both were based in Mahikeng. Sambatha also announced that the two nurses, one based in the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District and the other in the Ngaka Modiri Molema District, also died from the virus.

According to the latest statistics by Mkhize, the North West has 6,720 active cases after 17,702  patients recovered from the virus, with 224 deaths recorded from the 24,646 reported cases.
