NW police probe murder of alleged protestor─── LUCKY NKUYANE 10:07 Fri, 28 Aug 2020
The North West police in Klerksdorp are investigating a case of murder after an individual, believed to be a protestor, was found dead in Brakspruit.
Police spokesperson, Adele Myburgh, says the deceased's body was found at the place where riots have been taking place. She says the deceased has not yet been identified and is estimated to be between the ages of 20 and 25 years old.
Myburgh says he was discovered by police at the scene after irate residents of the Brakspruit farm between Klerksdorp and Ventersdorp took to the streets and barricaded the R15 road. Protestors also set a field alight. She further says violence and unrest in that area followed the arrest of two men aged 63 and 37, who were arrested for assault and malicious damage to property.
Myburgh adds that the man who was found dead at the scene of the protests sustained bullet wounds, but further adds that the police cannot confirm cause of death at this at this stage due to ongoing investigations.
The two men who arrested by police for assault and malicious damage to property, will on Friday appear at the Klerksdorp Magistrate's Court. Myburgh further adds that the violence at Brakspruit erupted last night at around 22:00 and 22:30.
