At least 16 more coronavirus patients have died in the North West in the last 24-hour cycle.

The increase in the rate of fatalities in the province took the death toll to 240. The 16 confirmed deaths in the North West are part of 155 fatalities reported by the Health Minister, Zweli Mkhize, on Friday night. Mkhize also announced that the country’s death toll now stands at 13 743 with a total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases standing at 620 132. The North West has recorded an increase of 117 new infections in the last 24 hours.

This means that active Covid-19 cases in the province are now at 6 517 after 18 165 patients recovered from the virus, and 230 deaths were recorded from the 24 922 reported cases. Residents in the province have once again been warned to observe Covid-19 regulations as fatalities increase.

Health MEC, Madoda Sambatha, recently revealed Covid-19 related deaths are mainly attributed to, amongst others, pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, acute respiratory distress syndrome, cardiac failure, and severe pancreatitis.
