FS warder in court for alleged murder | News Article

The 38-year-old Free State Goedemoed Correctional Services officer accused of murdering his wife aged 38, is on Monday due in the Aliwal North Magistrate's Court.

The officer, employed as a prison warder at the prison facility which is on the border with the Eastern Cape, was arrested last week after his wife’s bruised body was discovered in their bedroom.

The man will today face a charge of murder following allegations that he killed the deceased after a heated argument ensued between two. The Deputy Minister for Justice and Correctional Services (JCS), Nkosi Phatehekile Holomisa, condemned the murder of the 38-year-old woman and said that the department, along with law enforcement agencies, will ensure that justice is served and that similar incidents are prevented.

Bojabotsheha previously told OFM News that two battens which were allegedly used as weapons were found next to the victims' body. "During the day [27 August] the police were alerted about a murder that occurred at Catchcarth Street, Aliwal North. Upon their arrival at the scene, all the doors were locked and the respondent was still inside the house,“ Bojabotsheha further said.

He added that following suspicion of the incident the owner of the house was notified and he came to assist with spare keys to open the door in order for the South African Police Service (SAPS) to gain entrance. The acting Joe Gqabi District Commissioner, Brigadier Rudolph Adolph, has condemned the killing of the prison warder at the hands of her partner. Adolph says the crimes of gender-based violence (GBV) is a SAPS priority and it will be investigated thoroughly and they will also ensure that bail for the suspect is refused in court.
