#CoronavirusNW: PPE for health workers non-negotiable | News Article

The North West MEC for Health reiterates that health care workers on the frontline of the battle against the spread of Covid-19 should not work without Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Madoda Sambatha says although there is a lack of PPEs at some health care facilities in the province - due to increased usage - health workers shot not attend to patients without wearing the equipment. This comes after allegations that hospital management have not been monitoring the availability of PPEs, which in turn forces workers to handle Covid-19 patients without appropriate equipment.

During a visit at the Job Shimankana Tabane hospital on Monday, Sambatha said his department will do everything in its power ensure that workers are given necessary support.

OFM News previously reported that the Department has spent over 53% of the R124 million Covid-19 budget in the last six months on different service providers.

The department has spent R65 922 572 on more than 30 suppliers in the province, which supplied different items including masks, disposable overalls and temperature scanners.
