#CoronavirusNC: Premier maintains his innocence─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 06:54 Tue, 01 Sep 2020
Northern Cape Premier, Zamani Saul, maintains he has nothing to do with any illegal Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) tenders in the province, nor the looting of any funds.
Following media reports that Saul had a hand in the awarding of multimillion rand tenders to two of his allies, Saul has released a statement distancing himself from any Covid-19 corruption cases; stating that there is seemingly an attempt to taint his reputation.
In the statement he says this is part of a resistance campaign directed at him, because of his fight against corruption and wrongdoing in the province.
Saul is among the many political heads, including those in Luthuli House, now accused of looting state funds and awarding PPE tenders to close friends and family.
Responding to media reports linking him to two people in the province who received R40 million tenders, Saul further took to his social media pages to announce that he remains steadfast against corruption and had nothing to do with the tenders.
One tender each for the Health Department and the SAPS was reportedly handed to the wife of Saul’s special adviser, and businessman Somandla Sibisi, who is reported to be Saul’s friend.
Saul, however, denies these allegations, stating that SAPS procurement was a national competency, and had nothing to do with him; nor is he friends with the businessman in question.
“I do not have any role in the management of the SAPS and how they issue tenders, as the SAPS is a national competency.”
He urges anyone with proof against corruption to engage law enforcement agencies.
