NC police call on communities to report #GBV─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 08:31 Sat, 05 Sep 2020
The police in the Northern Cape are calling on communities to break the silence and report any cases of abuse and gender-based violence.
This, after the Provincial Head of Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Nicky Mills welcomed the sentence handed down to the 23-year-old Thato Ncheyagae yesterday in the Kuruman Regional court.
Ncheyagae has been sentenced to 20 years direct imprisonment for the rape of a 13-year-girl from Gamasepa Village.
Police spokesperson, Mashay Gamieldien, says Ncheyagae was found guilty of raping the teenage girl on New Year’s Eve at a local tavern.
She in a statement explains the victim reported the incident to her mother and the police arrested the accused the next day.
"The Kuruman FCS commander, Caren Nel, applauded the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Kweitumetse Semetsa for the meticulous investigation of the case," Gamieldien concluded.
