Water cuts expected in Setsoto─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 09:51 Sat, 05 Sep 2020
Residents of the Setsoto Local Municipality in the Free State will soon have to brace themselves for a lack of water supply.
This, after the municipality confirmed that there is a planned water supply interruption as of tomorrow to enable repairs to water infrastructure.
The municipal water and sewer maintenance manager, Sechaba Mmutsi, says they will be repairing a leak to the main pipeline supplying water to the Meqheleng Reservoir.
Residents are urged to store water and use it sparingly until the maintenance work is completed.
The municipality says they predict running water will be restored by Tuesday.
The municipality has in the past few months drawn much criticism over its leadership, with many alleging its former mayor Nthateng Maoke was a Lesotho citizen who fraudulently obtained South African citizenship.
Opposition parties called for her resignation amidst the allegations and further lambasted the ruling party for keeping her as an ordinary councillor following her resignation in December last year.
The Democratic Alliance blamed her for the municipality's financial woes and inability to provide adequate services to residents.
