#Coronavirus: No 'pass one, pass all' for NW pupils | News Article

There will be no "pass one, pass all" for learners in the North West. This is according to the provincial Education MEC, Mmaphefo Matsemela, during her roadshows on Sunday to welcome the grade 5 and 8 learners back at schools.

The two grades were the last batch remaining at home after a period of five months due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Matsemela explained that the expectation that the learners will be mass progressed is not on the table. She emphasises that learners will be progressed according to their performance. This as all examinations have been moved to November. Furthermore, the schools will not be closed for recess this month as per usual.

Grade 12 pupils are expected to start their preliminary examinations on Monday, 14 September. The preliminaries will assist pupils to evaluate their performance.

Matsemela  said “the department is going the extra mile to ensure learners get assistance. We have introduced a 'Dial a tutor' programme as an intervention programme to help learners. Schools have introduced differentiated time tables to ensure all learners receive learning and teaching. Schools have also introduced extra classes to catch up for the lost time".

So far, according to News24, the MEC's roadshow has monitored the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati, Ngaka Modiri Molema and Bojanala districts and it is expected to visit the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District in the coming week.
