FS clerk sentenced for issuing fake payslips | News Article

A former financial clerk of the Welkom-based Galison equipment manufacturing company, Relebohile Nnana Letlatsa, 34, has been convicted of fraud and money laundering.

According to a statement, the Hawks' Commercial Crime Investigation unit proved that Letlatsa fraudulently issued payslips in the guise of ghost employees in the company.

The fraudulent activities occurred from September 2017 to October 2018. The company lost more than R209 000 as a result of her scheme.

The Hawks arrested her on 21 August 2019. Letlatsa pleaded guilty before the Virginia Commercial Crimes Court. She was found guilty on Wednesday of contraventions of the Electronic Communications and Transaction Act as well as the Prevention of Organised Crime Act, the statement indicated.

She was sentenced to 12 months in prison for contravening the Electronic Communications and Transaction Act, seven years for fraud, and a further five years for money laundering. The charges were wholly suspended for five years on condition that she pays R158 658 to her former employer.
