Free State Education MEC Tate Makgoe will today visit the Caleb Motshabi Primary School, where some pupils from the Unity Primary School will now be attending classes.

Makgoe, who recently recovered from Covid-19, announced this is in an effort to implement social distancing and comply with Covid-19 regulations at Unity Primary School.

He says Grade 1 to 3 learners from Unity will make use of mobile classrooms and be welcomed at the Caleb Motshabi Primary School on Monday.

Makgoe's announcement comes amidst growing concern over the spread of the virus at schools, with education unions calling for more teachers with co-morbidities to be allowed to work from home.

The country’s largest teachers union, the South African Democratic Teachers Union (Sadtu), has raised concerns about the capacity of schools to handle more phased-in grades, whilst more and more teachers are declaring co-morbidities.
