#Coronavirus: Northern Cape tourism seeks to rebuild | News Article
Northern Cape Premier Dr Zamani Saul

Northern Cape Premier, Dr. Zamani Saul says Covid-19 affected each and every aspect of our lives and the national economy, with people losing their jobs and the poor becoming even poorer.

Provincial tourism was affected following restrictions to provincial and international travel.

Saul says this has affected Northern Cape tourism since the province had no travellers nationally and internationally.

The impact was devastating, as the province lost about 51% of provincial gross domestic product compared to last year.

There are more people without jobs and more households left poorer because of the pandemic.

Saul further adds a lot of work needs to be done to ensure job opportunities - especially for the youth - and to assist poor households in putting food on the table.

As Covid-19 cases decrease, the president on Wednesday night said that the country will move to lockdown level 1 from midnight on Sunday.

Business and leisure travel will be allowed from October 1, with some restrictions in place for countries with high infection rates.
