FS communities warned against wildfires─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 07:08 Thu, 17 Sep 2020

Free State communities have been warned against high fire danger conditions forecast for Thursday until next week Monday.
According to the Free State Umbrella Fire Protection Association, hot dry and windy conditions, often conducive to runaway veld fires, are expected over the next few days.
Communities have been urged to refrain from starting open fires during this period, except in special designed places, and further advised to report all fires to the fire brigade.
The high fire danger warning comes just days after OFM News reported on an open fire that spread near Northridge Mall in the northern parts of Bloemfontein.
Whilst it remains unclear what could have led to the fire, the Mangaung Fire Rescue Department managed to contain it after several hours.
The Free State Umbrella Fire Protection Associations' Jan de Villiers, in a statement says "extreme fire danger conditions with Fire Danger Index values between 83 and 92 will be experienced on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September - when temperatures will remain above 25°C, humidity below 20% and wind gusts expected to exceed 50km/h in many areas".
