FS mayor to meet irate residents─── LUCKY NKUYANE 14:24 Fri, 18 Sep 2020
The mayor of the troubled Letsemeng Local Municipality, which includes Petrusburg and Koffiefontein in the Free State, is expected to meet with irate Bolokanang residents to try and iron out their differences over issues besieging the municipality.
The mayor, Sello Bahumi, tells OFM News that he, the municipal manager (MM) Lucas Mkhwane, and a team of directors will on Friday afternoon discuss some of the issues which include the call for him to resign and complaints of a lack of service delivery.
Petrusburg residents have been up in arms and called for Bahumi's immediate resignation over amongst others, raw sewage, and waste refuse that has allegedly not been collected for over two months. The community leader, Kevin Lehlohonolo Banda, on Thursday told OFM News for months residents have been trying to get answers from Bahumi but their efforts have not yielded any results. Bahumi has further requested residents to stop protesting while they seek to find answers over the impasse between the two parties.
Bahumi told OFM News he managed to address residents at a local police station on Friday morning.
Yesterday the community leader Banda said what has exacerbated the matter around the area is the high rate of youth unemployment and lack of infrastructure development.
On Thursday OFM News paid a visit to the area and uncovered evidence or the effects of the rampage caused by the disgruntled residents' protests in the area are still visible. Burnt tyres, rocks, and waste refuse used to block the road were still lying on the ground.
