Normalcy returns to NW following protests─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 10:42 Mon, 21 Sep 2020
The police in the North West confirms normalcy has returned to the town of Wolmaransstad after a protest action ensued on Monday morning.
Police spokesperson, Adéle Myburgh, says a group of approximately 60 people blocked the road outside town on the N12 early on Monday morning, but the group has now dispersed. Although the cause of the protest action remains unclear, she confirms the group cleared the rubble they used to block the road after negotiations with the police and some community leaders. She says no arrests were made and the police in the province are keeping a close eye on the situation.
OFM News’ Marvin Ntsane last week reported on a protest action that flared up in a village near Zeerust in the North West due to a lack of service delivery. Community members of Dinokana in Lehurutshe last week Thursday blocked the N4 road with burning tyres, rocks, and tree branches in demand of water provision and other municipal services.
Following the Lehurutshe protests, Myburgh confirmed normalcy has returned to Zeerust and neighbouring villages.
