ANCvsANC: Members told to toe the line | News Article

The North West ANC Interim Provincial Working Committee (IPWC) has threatened to take action and act decisively against ANC members refusing to toe the line and step down from their party positions.

IPWC spokesperson, Kenny Morolong, says the party was shocked by some of the Troika members refusing to relinquish their power and those who openly criticised the party.

Last week, the axed Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati Regional Secretary Gaolatlhe Kgabo strongly criticised the IPWC’s decision to recall mayors, speakers, and chief whips. However, Morolong says the party will take an initiative and meet with the affected [members] to remind them of their duties and to observe high levels of discipline. This is not the first time ANC officials defies orders of the party to step down, in 2013 two mayors - one in Ngaka Modiri Molema District, Audrey Saku, and one in Ramotshere Moiloa municipality, Afrika Thale - refused to step down.

In a statement last week, the ANC in the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District said the assessment allegedly conducted by the NW ANC IPWC on the district municipality was conducted somewhere in a tavern in Potchefstroom. This after it questioned the motive of the party’s IPWC following allegations that initially the interim structure had said that it will assess and act in at least five municipalities but suddenly only acted against five municipalities.

“The IPWC noted that whilst there are deployees who have tendered their resignations, others are yet to comply with the directive of the organisation to relinquish their various positions of deployment. The IPWC further noted that some ANC members have publicly criticised the IPC decision to recall these troikas and that a report to this effect will be compiled and presented to the next IPWC meeting,” Morolong adds. He further adds that the party “wish to issue a stern warning that, whilst the ANC is a democratic organisation, which promotes a culture of the free circulation of views and ideas, those who wish to offer constructive criticism of any member, official, policy programme or activity must express such within the structures of the organisation”.
