The spokesperson for Eskom, Stefanie Jansen van Rensburg, says that the Free State has been experiencing these issues since the beginning of August and it is currently unknown when the end date will be. 

In the Lejweleputswa district in the Northern Free State, Block 5, K3, and K7 in Kutlwanong are amongst those that will be added to the list. The Thabo Mofutsanyana district in the Eastern Free State, as well as a certain part of the Bohlokong area, is said to be affected. The load reduction is set to take effect from 17h00 until 20h00 this evening.

‘’In line with Eskom’s duty to protect its electricity infrastructure and the communities in those districts in which they operate, Eskom Free State is implementing load reduction in areas in which network overloading is thriving. Eskom cannot afford the repeated replacement of transformers but we also have a duty to protect our equipment where overloading poses a continuous threat to expensive infrastructure’’.

The communities affected are advised to not tamper with installations as they still remain dangerous. Daily updates will be issued to the media and published on Eskom’s various social media platforms.
