This, as 38 apprentices across the province are expected to resume with their training programmes as of Thursday. The group is expected to work towards acquiring skills and work experience in aircraft mechanics, fitter and turner, welding as well as in electrical and other artisanal skills. The announcement by Mokgoro will come just a day after Statistics South Africa confirmed that the number of unemployed South Africans now stands at 23.3 % with young people and women still hit the hardest.

The Quarterly Labour Force Survey (QLFS) report presented by Statistician Risenga Maluleke, shows that the South African economy shed 2,2 million jobs in the second quarter of the year and that employment losses were observed across all industries.

The North West recorded an unemployment rate of 21.6% for the second quarter of 2020.

Following a bleak picture painted by Stats SA, Mokgoro is also expected to address questions on how to address unemployment in the province.
