ANC FS convenes urgent meeting | News Article

The ANC in the Free State confirms that one of its deployees in the province has been nabbed, following the exposure of the controversial R255 million Free State asbestos project at the Zondo Commission.

ANC spokesperson, Thabo Meeko, tells OFM News that the party notes developments from the State Capture Commission and as a result the party will convene an urgent meeting on Wednesday.

He says in the meeting one of the issues to be discussed or looked into is the implications in relation to the recent ANC resolutions in matters of corruption. Indications are the ANC is likely to recall and ask the suspects to recuse themselves from their position.

This will be in relation to the recent letter written by ANC president, Cyril Ramaphosa, who asked members implicated in the wrong to rescue themselves until they clear their names.

Meanwhile, the six suspects arrested on Wednesday will appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Friday to face charges of fraud, corruption and money laundering. This as the Hawks in the Free State are in pursuit of a seventh suspect.

The Hawks provincial spokesperson, Lynda Steyn, confirmed to OFM News that so far six suspects have been nabbed and a warrant of arrest has been issued for the seventh suspect.

OFM News earlier reported that businessman Edwin Sodi, former Free State’s department of human settlements boss Nthimotse Mokhesi and former national human settlements director-general Thabane Zulu are known to have been arrested, and sources say the former mayor of the Mangaung Metro, Olly Mlamleli was also allegedly arrested earlier on Wednesday.
